EARLY YEARS / PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID (12hrs)
This course has been developed for those working with children and babies, often attendees would be teachers, child minders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel, au pairs and staff responsible for youth organisations such as guides and scouts.
It meets the Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements for nannies under the DfES Approved Carers Scheme. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
In addition to the items covered on the one day course it includes subjects like looking after equipment and facilities, calling the emergency services when required.
Duration
The course is delivered over 2 days / 12 hours.
It can be delivered over 2 consecutive days (preferred) or over 2 separate days to suit the needs of the client.

- Regulations, responsibilities and reporting
- The First Aid kit
- Assessment of the situation
- Dealing with an unconscious casualty
- Resuscitation / CPR
- Choking
- Asthma and diabetic emergencies
- Febrile Convulsions and Seizures
- Heart attacks
- Bleeding and Shock
- Anaphylactic shock, poisoning, bites and stings
- Foreign objects / Eyes, ears and noses
- Eye injuries
- Fractures
- Heat stroke, heat exhaustion and hypothermia
- Meningitis
- Fainting
Assessment and Certification
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor after which all successful candidates will receive a Certificate which is valid for three years.
This syllabus is in line with the current Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
It is recommended that candidates attend an annual 3 hour refresher programme, although not mandatory
Numbers
A maximum of 16 people can be accommodated on this course and candidates must be aged 16 years or over.
Venue
Courses can be arranged at your premises subject to a pre-course assessment of the facilities or at a local off site venue.
